Pioneer Elementary Students Help Those In Need

Pioneer Elementary School students recently took a trek to help those less fortunate than them.

The school’s students spent about two weeks collecting food donations for the Parker Task Force Food Bank, which offers short-term assistance to those in need. Then, on June 20, about 150 of the on-track students loaded up the donations into about 25 wagons and trekked the half mile from the school to deliver the donations in person.

It’s not the first time the students have reached out to help others. In fact, this is the fifth year that Mandy Anderson, a second grade teacher, has organized a food collection effort.

“It’s really good for our kids to get involved in some community service projects,” Anderson explained. “It’s an awareness lesson,” so the students learn that not everyone is privileged and that some people are unable to put food on their tables.

“It’s always good to do nice things for other people,” she added.

The effort is always appreciated by the task force, which currently is helping about 350 families with short-term assistance.
